Entrapment

Son of God,
Terminated his expedition
Dipped into the bloody clouds
While she is ironing her pleated school uniform
Enthusiastically expected her graduation next day
Out of nowhere the sneezes
attacked her continuously
Bless you......bless you....
Grandma voiced gently at her
"You are catching a cold..you are getting sick
You know something
Whenever you sneeze like this
Someone is always thinking of you...."
She was fascinated with this explanation
Went to sleep
Darkness embraced
Knock knock knock
Hesitated to open the lousy door
If not it will be busted anyway
Uniformed creatures immerged with barrels
Before sun rise
the eastward of the globe became red
Grandma yelled.....sons of bitches
A week later
she was darning her bloodied undergarment

  • Jeyakumar Antoni There is a satire engraved in the first three lines of the poem as we all know that the Son of God terminated his expedition with his raising hands mingling with the white clouds of the sky. Well…it is a meaningful satire as it awakens the curiosity of the readers to keep on reading.
The girl with the fascinating expectations of her graduation felt a sweet new experience with her grandma’s gentle voice, someone is always thinking of you………… Poor girl, she might have gone to bed with an unexplainable happiness and sweet thoughts of someone that she might have encountered from the opposite sex.

Alas…….fear gripping dark nights…..men in uniforms….brandishing barrels…….…pounding on the doors……. bring back the memories of those thudding boots in the background noises of unstoppable barking dogs……..Aiyo……….Aiyo…….Enta Aiyo……those stomach-churning (வயிற்றைக் கலக்கல்) screams are echoed through a few lines of the poem. The last line of the poem, she was darning her bloodied undergarment, is a heart-wrenching one, not only it gives assumptions of the plight of the girl but also sums up the whole poem, Entrapment. A well-deserved poem for anyone who has witnessed such heinous crimes in life.// Thank you, Comrade for the inspiring poem !!!
  • Anand Prasad Thank you Jeyakumar Antoni
This documentation is one among which I have witnessed
in countless incidences when I was living in my home land.

This particular one happened in Pankulam...16 miles away from
my home in Trincomalee. Grateful to your input.
  • Jeyakumar Antoni Dear Anand Prasad,.....The war-time pain you experienced is thoroughly reflected in the whole poem as it makes the readers' hearts go out to the unknown and unseen girl and her grandma. Only a few writers like you, can bring life and charisma to the Literary Genres not only because of your wartime experience but you guys know how to transmit the pain you felt to the readers with efficiency and style. Keep it up !!!
